ArHIMA is a component state association of the American Health
Information Management Association (AHIMA), the premier association of
health information management (HIM) professionals. There are
approximately 50,000 members of AHIMA, and approximately 500 members of
ArHIMA. These HIM professionals are dedicated to the effective
management of personal health information needed to deliver quality
healthcare to the public and work in all levels of health care settings,
health maintenance organizations, insurance companies, law firms, and
information systems companies.
The majority of ArHIMA members are Registered Health Information
Administrators (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technicians (RHIT).
RHIAs are managers as well as information specialists. Individuals who
earn a bachelor's degree from an accredited college program are entitled
to sit for the RHIA credentialing exam. RHITs are skilled in analyzing health
information. Successful completion of an associate's degree from an
accredited college program qualifies one to sit for the RHIT
credentialing examination. Anyone interested in the activities of the association
may join. For more information on ArHIMA membership,
