Message from the President - February 2017
2017 is here and changes are occurring daily. Within a week of taking office, President Trump has issued an executive order to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Changes to our current healthcare plans will not change this year, but next year is leaving a lot of us wondering what the future holds. As a HIM professional we have become accustomed to constant change. This year is no different from the others.
Here are other examples of recent changes.
AHIMA has rolled out a new and improved website to its members. A new membership model is another change that affects the members that hold multiple credentials, as well as a new CEU dashboard. Learn more about the various membership types AHIMA offers and the costs and benefits associated with them. Instead of a one-size-fits-all approach to membership, each member will be empowered to select the AHIMA content, services, and products they value most. Click here: www.ahima.org/membership/newmodel
HIM Reimagined is an AHIMA Leadership initiative to build a framework to transform health information management and position professionals for the future. It is HIM’s Professional Shake-up Wake-Up!!!! Ten years from now job competencies will include analytical thinking and research capabilities. Experience with data interoperability, terminologies, data analytics, electronic health record management, HIM standards, and design innovation will be much more sought-after.
2017 will also bring implementation of the 21st Century Cures Act which was signed into law in December, 2016. This legislation includes a number of provisions that seek to improve the overall flow of health information throughout the healthcare ecosystem and providing a secure exchange of health information.
Plans for the upcoming ArHIMA/ArHIMSS Convention in Little Rock, April 5 & 6 are being finalized. The theme for this year’s convention is “Navigating the Information Highway”. Please plan to join us for another education and fun-filled event!
Wishing all of you a great year!!!
