To be a member of ArHIMA, a person must first be a member of AHIMA, and then select Arkansas as the component state association (CSA) to which they want to belong. Benefits of membership are numerous and include subscription to the award-winning Journal of AHIMA, access to the Communities of Practice (CoP) and the Foundation on Research and Education (FORE) library online, access to the online job bank, and discounts on AHIMA Job Postings/News, certification exams, and continuing education opportunities. In addition, there are affinity programs in place as well, hotel and insurance discounts to car rental discounts.   1. Active Membership— Individuals interested in the AHIMA purpose and willing to abide by the Code of Ethics. Active members in good standing shall be entitled to all membership privileges, including the right to vote.

  2. Student Membership—Students formally enrolled in an AHIMA-accredited or approved program, including programs pending accreditation or approval, or AHIMA's Coding Basics, who do not already have an AHIMA credential are eligible to apply for student membership. Eligibility is verified with the program director. Individuals not enrolled in the above programs would sign up as an Active member. Special benefits for student members: AHIMA Mentor Program, Student Community of Practice, and Student Connection E-News/

  3. New Graduate Membership—New graduate membership is for AHIMA student members only. After graduation from an AHIMA accredited HIT, HIA, approved Coding or Master's program, AHIMA Student Members may join as a New Graduate Member at reduced annual dues rate. This is limited to one year.

  4. Senior Membership—In recognition of service to the profession, current AHIMA members 65 and over are eligible for this member type.

AHIMA does not offer a corporate membership in the sense of a group enrollment option. We have a corporate affiliation program, which is designed for vendors or other institutional entities who want to receive information on AHIMA's activities and also gain additional visibility with our members.

 

Individuals residing outside the US would select Active Membership.

There are five (5) classes of membership as follows:

  1. Active – Any AHIMA active member in good standing who chooses Arkansas as their component state association (CSA). Active membership in AHIMA requires that an individual hold an AHIMA credential.

  2. Associate – The Associate Membership of the Association shall be composed of the Associate Members of the American Health Information Management Association who select Arkansas for their CSA.

  3. Student – Any individual who holds Student Membership in the American Health Information Management Association and who is either formally enrolled in a program for Health Information Administrator or Health Information Technician in this State or resides in the State and is formally enrolled in a program in another state and selects this State for his\her association membership shall be a Student Member of this Association as long as his\her Student Membership in the American Health Information Management Association continues.

  4. Vendor Sponsorship - Any corporation interested in the purposes of this Association is eligible for Vendor Sponsorship. The corporation shall designate one (1) representative who shall have the rights and privileges of membership, including that of serving on committees with voice and vote; however, they shall not be entitled to other voting privileges, hold office, or serve as Delegates.

  5. Honorary – Any person who receives Honorary Membership in the American Health Information Management Association and resides in the State of Arkansas shall be an Honorary Member of this association.
