Where do you work and what is your job title?
Howard Memorial Hospital in Nashville, AR. I am the HIM Director/Privacy Officer
How long have you been a member of ArHIMA?
I’ve been a member since 2002.
What certification types have you received or are seeking to receive?
RHIA. I plan to sit for my CCS later this year.
Which college/university did you attend?
Arkansas Tech University
What made you decide to pursue a career in HIM?
I liked the medical field but did not want to be in a clinical role.
What other jobs and/or titles have you held prior to the present one?
HIM Manager, HIM Supervisor, Remote ER Coder
What are some of your responsibilities at your current position?
I oversee the entire HIM Department. I also serve as the Privacy Officer, investigating HIPAA violations and privacy concerns.
What is a typical day like for you?
There isn’t a typical day in my position! Working in a Critical Access hospital I wear many hats and that keeps it very interesting most days.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy having the advantage of working on a lot of different projects within the hospital. I learn something new all the time to add to my experience.

What’s something about you (a fun fact) not many people know?
I love DYI projects. I bought a project home that I am redoing on my own.
What’s your favorite family tradition?
All 3 of my kids get cupcakes for breakfast on their birthdays!
Who had the most influence on you growing up?
My dad.

What’s something you want to do that you’ve never done before?
Get a tattoo!
Do you like to cook? If so, what is your favorite thing to cook?
I love to cook! I like to try new recipes so I don’t really have a go-to at the moment.
If you could get on a plane tonight and travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Fiji or somewhere equally exotic.
Where is one place in Arkansas you would suggest people to visit?
The Buffalo National River
