Where do you work and what is your job title?
I am currently employed at Arkansas Children Hospital for the ARHMS (Arkansas Reproductive Health Monitoring System)

How long have you been a member of ArHIMA?
I became a member in 2009 while I was a student at UAMS.

What certification types have you received or are seeking to receive?
I currently have my RHIA, CCS and CAISS.

Which college/university did you attend?
University of Arkansas for Medical Science.

What made you decide to pursue a career in HIM?
I have worked in healthcare for several years in different capacity (Unit Coordinator, Scheduler, Data Coordinator etc…  So I wanted something that would allow me to stay in healthcare without patient interactions.

What other jobs and/or titles have you held prior to the present one?

What are some of your responsibilities at your current position?
I am the supervisor for the ARHMS registry; I am responsible for the day-to-day operation of the department, I oversee 5 HIS abstractors.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
Knowing that the data that we are entering into the registry will one day help babies and mothers have a better outcome concerning birth defects in the State of Arkansas.

What is your favorite food?
Catfish (fried)

What’s something about you (a fun fact) not many people know?
I am really an introvert. I enjoy my alone time and love to read.

What’s your favorite family tradition?
Yearly family vacations.

Who had the most influence on you growing up?
My mother, she worked hard and raised her children without complaining.

What was the first concert you ever attended?
Gap Band in the 1980’s.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever heard?
You can’t listen if you are talking all the time.

Do you like to cook? If so, what is your favorite thing to cook?
No I hate cooking; only cook when I have to.

If you could get on a plane tonight and travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Vegas
