What made you decide to pursue a career in HIM?
I wanted to work in the medical field since I was a volunteer at our local hospital during high school. I had the chance to work in the business office/medical records department a few times and enjoyed it when I was not helping the patients as a candy striper. I knew that I wanted to work with computers somehow as well so that is how I decided what my major was going to be in college.
What other jobs and/or titles have you held prior to the present one?
During college summer breaks I worked as a Purchasing Clerk at UAMS in Little Rock. I worked at Sparks, now Baptist Health, for 9 years as a HIM clerk doing various duties in the Medical Records Department. After I left there, I was the Medical Records Department Manager for another facility for 13 years.
What are some of your responsibilities at your current position?
I have been cross-trained in most aspects of our individual department where I currently work. We do reviews for Arkansas Medicaid.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy the people I work with and gaining a better knowledge of how the insurance works in our state.
